SUNDAY 11TH MAY - HOT! HOT! HOT! IN THE BEACH!
LISA AMBROSE (18 YRS OLD FROM SUFFOLK)OPENS
LIVERPOOL SHOW FOR MARK RONSON
AS WINNER OF THE  "BATTLE OF THE BANDSTAND"
COMPETITION JUICE FM LIVERPOOL
Corsa presents BANDSTAND steered by
Sunday Best (BBC Radio 1's Rob Da Bank)
The Festival was held at Carling Academy,
Liverpool
Last night Saturday 10th May

When  Lisa Ambrose first appeared at
Casa Mia Music Bar in Southwold Suffolk
4 months ago she arrived with one harmonica
and asked to play at one of my open-mic sessions -
held every Thursday night for up and coming
singer/songwriters and musicians (Unsigned)
she played a couple of her own tunes a blew
the audience away., I asked her if she played any other
instruments to which she replied... "Yeah, I also
play guitar an write my own tunes"  I told her
to come again the next week with her guitar and
perform a few of her songs... she did!  the audience
we're quite amazed, as she had been coming to
open mic sessions as a member of the audience
for a few months.... I knew there and then this girl
had something special.  Three weeks later (February/March)
I brought her into studio to record her first demo
"Dancing  under the Moonlight" "Be my Valentine and
"Goodbye Robbie"....  she wrote all three
almost overnight
and keeps churning them out.  She then
set about creating her own myspace and got
beavering away applying to 'everything music'.
Lisa Ambrose entered
Rob da Bank's (Sunday Best & Bestivel) Battle of
The Banstand... and yesterday afternoon won herself
a slot on the bill at last night's event featuring:
MARK RONSON
ROB DA BANK
KISSY SELL OUT
THE CUBAN BROTHERS
KITTY DAISY AND LEWIS
THE TROUBADOURS
SOMBRERO SOUND SYSTEM
STEVE PARRY
(**LISA AMBROSE - OPENED THE SHOW)

Who could have guessed 4 months ago that this
complete unknown school girl would end up
supporting Mark Ronson et al... at an event that
attracted over 2000 people.....
Lisa stepped on to the massive stage with
nerves of steel - played an emaculate fifteen minute set;
"By The Seaside" "Moonlight" "Liar Liar" and
her
belter of a harmonica track "Boogy Beat".
She looked and sounded like she had
been
doing it all her life!

Is this the next big act to emerge out of Suffolk?
**BBC's Radio 1 Jock; Rob Da Bank
is credited with filling the highly respected
"Demo Bands/Breakthrough Artists Slot" of the late
great Suffolk based DJ John Peel, whose
tirelesswork of breaking new acts will go down
in ROCK & ROLL history... So to Mr Rob da Bank....
we salute you and thank you for giving Miss Ambrose
her first real break!

Lisa is 18yrs old., comes from Bungay in Suffolk,
she attends Bungay High School and has a cat
called Psycho.  For more about Lisa including
her songs see her  www.myspace.com/misslisaambrose

THURSDAY 20TH MARCH 2008

Can you believe it's Easter Wekend already - apparently not going to come around

in March again for another 162years - so I guess you and I won't be here for

that one - so let's make this Easter Special!  Tonight's open mic will be featuring

a few of the usual suspects and one or two new contenders... Heading up

tonight's webcast is the very wonderful Lisa Ambrose, Lisa and I popped

into studio last Friday and recorded her first Demo which can be heard

at her myspace.com/misslisaambrose and we also reckon

the incredible IndieGirls will also make an appearance - check

their myspace.com/indiegirlsband.  we're hoping of course we'll

be hearing from Tom Horton and Oliver Densham at some stage tonight

 - their rep is getting wider, deeper and better every time - so well

worth a viewing.  My very special thanks Ewout & Louise (London) who

were here at the Casa a few weeks back and went online a few days

ago and purchased a copy of my album - My House My Rules - your comments

SATURDAY 8TH MARCH 2008 - SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE!

He's back - He's gorgeous - but most of all he is absolutley one of my favourite

singer songwriters - the wonderful  MATT SHEPHERD is in The House tonight!

Matt will be taking to the stage around 9.30 - and opening tonight's show is our

bright new shinning SINGER/SONGWRITER  star MISS LISA AMBROSE, Most of you Open mic

regulars  will  by now be familiar with this fab new talent.... Lisa played her first gig

ever, right here at Casa Mia some 5 weeks ago - and in that short space of time

has not only managed to build a phenomenol fan base  - we're booked into Rock Lobster

Recording Studios (Southwold) next Friday to record her first demo - I am so excited I

can't wait to workwith her in studio.

we're recording three of her tunes, the first track we're laying down is

going to be her first single "Dancing Under The Moonlight", such a catchy melody, which

is quite infectious - we recorded a live version at last Thursday's Open Mic - Tom Horton

broughthis portable studio in and caught the moment perfectly - those results can be

heard on Lisa's MySpace in a few days time (see myspace/misslisaambrose)

The other two tunes we're recroding are;"Be My Valentine" and her haunting

lament to her late uncle Robbie, simply titled "Goodbye Robbie".

A special thanks to the surpirse appearance last Thursday from the incredible

Andy Bannister who literally stunned the room with his Blues Harmonica and

irrestistable Vocals - the room just would not let him leave the stage.

A special thanks also goes out to the fabulous IndieGirls who took a break

from their studies and gave us a dynamic 20 minute set including a new

track which I feel is probably going to be their "pension" hit...  more about

that later....   No open mic is ever complete without a spot from our unofficial

Music Director Tom Horton and his singing partner in crime  - the ever

entertainingOliver Densham.  Finally t'was wonderful to see

Mr Jukebox Jon in thehouse who performed a superb

rendition of Cold Outside with his

best buddy Maggie.......

So just one week to go before Paddy's Weekend kicks in here - we're

opening up the house next weekend to all kinds of musical madness

... if your in the area next Saturday and or Monday night - grab a bodhran, guitar,

whistle, or just a set of your finest kitchen desert spoons and come join

the ceol agus craic..............................

it's going to be  a session and a half - with loads of surprises!!!!

if you have any requests or messages for tonight's show with Matt Shepherd

or Lisa Ambrose you can email them directly on This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

SATURDAY 1ST MARCH 2008.........  HAPPY BIRTHDAY 'BIGFOOT' !!

{...Our general manager and head chef....

hav ye got  a hangover today there matey?}

SO..............................................................................

Spring is in the air..... sun is shinning... the rain has finally stopped

and the winds are dying down..... me little music venue

got ripped apart last night in the storm....  well not too

serious but a lot of water got in upstairs..  me... the dog... and bumble the cat

were planking it for a while......  but all's calm now......

ok lads here's the beef - last thursdays open mic was knock out.. Tom and Ollie did their

usual stunning renditions of all the greats....... 40's and 50's writers.......

The very Wonderful Lisa Ambrose just gets better each week - your email reactions

and text messages are full of want and priase for the girl... which

is great news for us ...  because we go into studio on the 14th March

to record a 3 piece EP - her  three self-penned  tunes include; Goodbye Robbie,

Be My Valentine and the spectacular Dancin' in Da Moonlight.......

The Indiegirls, as mentioned some weeks back will be taking a slight

break from open mic (thursdays)  while they focus on their school  exams...

however.....

I gather they played a dynamite gig at the wine bar in Halesworth

last saturday...  so good on ya girls and keep up the good work.

SATURDAY 9TH FEB 2008

Been a busy couple of days - those of you living in or around the coastal region of

East Anglia will probably be aware of our on going batttles with the EA over flood

defence issues......  suffice to say that the Ferry Road group and the Blythe est'

/ Walberswick Groups are currently working very hard over the next few weeks

to build our case as to WHY we need as a community to fight to keep our lands

protected from the sea.... we won't dwell at this blog now... but....

if you are free around 11.30am on Sunday 17th February please feel free to

attend and the support the SOS Rally on Walberswick beach!!

your support will be much appreciated.

Thursday's Open Mic 7th Feb

I would like to extend my thanks and congrats to all our performers last Thursday

... The show opened with a wonderful singer/songwriter Lise Ambrose.. in fact your

response to her emotive song for her late uncle Robbie was simply terrific. 18 year old

Lise is proving to be a dynamite songstress... in fact your reponse was so great we had to

bring her back later in the night to perform the song again.  I can now confirm that this is the

next act I shall be bringing into studio to record  a demo... this will happen within the next

few weeks .... we will also get her myspace up and running and place the demo

at her site (probably two or three tracks and well deserved)  INDIEGIRLS  played

yet again a superb set.. they have just completed a 4 hour session

with ACE ex EMI Producer John Fraser and I was very impressed with the results.

It looks very likely that our two young ladies will be receiving air-play very

soon on Beach FM... so watch this space. Also on the bill on Thursday

night were a few surprises - Mark Conibeer and his friend Ian blew the

room away with their passionate version of Dirty Ol' Town -

god bless the pogues/ .....we certailnly hope to see Mark here again

next week.  I wish to finally asknowledge Mr Tom Horton ( pianist extraodinare )

and his adorable and talented mate Oliver for their unique performances who

left us all wanting more of their creative madness.....

Gotta run for now dogs... am back on stage tonight around 9.30  have been requested to

open with Leeson Street Bridge (dedicated to Peggy Flynn RIP) and suffice to say this is for

Steven and Jimmy (you know who you are!)  she'll be looking down form heaven at you

Hi all....  last night's broadcast certainly hit a few notes

around the world.....so I'm going to address all those

email & text enquiries right now... in the following order;-

LATITIUDE 2008 - spoke to the lovely press people at FMG

and it looks like we will quite probably grab a live interview

with one of the festival organisers over the next few weeks...

so watch this space.... for all general info on this year's line-up

and headliners you are just going to have to wait!!!!   best to go

online to the Latitude website (latitudefestival.co.uk) and

register for your place in the festival sun.

INDIEGIRLS PERFORMANCE last night two 17year old girls

from Halesworth created a storm live on air... apart from their

own songs - see their myspace for samples.....

Tory Cobb and Mary Podd did a phenomenal rendition of

Songbird (Oasis) and I have to admit they covered one

of my own tracks and blew me and the audience away....

Mercurial Ways was written on and for piano.. however

both these fine young guitarists did a cheeky little

arrangement and It's got to be said... I was quite taken aback.

No surprise to learn that they are currently working

with genius ex EMI producer John Fraser (Paul McCartney's 'Ecce Cor Meum' album)

and that they will now be releasing their 6 track EP "Vanilla"

within the next few weeks.  They are back again with us

here next Thursday by vote and request, so thank you each

and everyone of you for your text and emails ... we love

when a great act springs through our open mic sessions -

that's what we're here for - breaking new talent and.......

KEEPING MUSIC LIVE!!!

OPEN MIC - BREAKTHROUGH - ARTIST  our debut artist LISE AMBROSE

also 17 and from the Halesworth direction took to the stage for

the first time last night in her first solo performance - what a beltor!!

from your reaction texts.... most of you feel that this singer/songwriter

has got a massive future with lots more to say - I think we are all in agreeance...

[Lisa - we want to hear much much more from you girl... so start writting that album]

Lise has also been offered another spot here next week

due to demand - PLEASE KEEP YOUR TEXTS COMMING IN -

thats how it works - YOU TEXT IN YOUR FAV PERFORMANCES

AND WE BOOK 'EM TO PLAY LIVE ON AIR.  (text artist name to +44 7887862321)

TOM HORTON - not much more I can say about this pianist / hammond organ player

- we love him here and would also like to thank him for being so helpful

as music director assisting our nervous debut artists both spiritually and

musically and for playing his knock-out rendition of "Forgotten Dreams"...

the first few bars of that song really does make me cry especially

when Tom plays it  -  the in-house audience finds my reaction

somewhat amusing - what can I say?  I admit I tend to wear my sleeve up me 'arse.......

Next weeks open-mic - unless you have already been offered a spot -

you need to be here to audition/register about 7pm.  we go live on air

about 9pm (solo artists, duo's favoured) sorry due to floor space

THE STORY SO FAR………….

The Mystery Of Love (is Stranger than I thought)  You get yourself into trouble sometime and you get yourself out it’s tough to define it’s your own fault, you work so hard just to make a day pay you collect the wage and pick up the pain the slow way …..I don’t mind what’s going down, once my baby’s still around I’ll know yeah… and I don’t care if it’s to be, the Lord will bless the mystery…….the mystery of love…… you run around here and you run around there, you’re running so fast you, just don’t care if they don’t play ball. Standing at the back of the field we see a similar look it’s easy to read the pitfalls, but I don’t mind what’s going down, once my baby’s still around I’ll know….and I don’t care if it’s to be, the Lord will bless the mystery the mystery of love……it’s stranger than I thought, stranger than I thought, stranger than I thought.. the mystery of love……mystery man on a mystery train, heading for love and a tunnel of pain  but most of all, sitting at the back of the train we see a woman he loves a woman he feels the need to call….  I don’t mind what’s going down, once my baby’s still around I’ll know…. and  I don’t  care if it’s to be, the Lord will bless the mystery I don’t  care if it’s to be, the Lord will bless the mystery I don’t  care if it’s to be, the Lord will  save the mystery for…..……….You never told me that you had a lover tucked away so neatly they cook all your favourite food, it’s so romantic of you, not to tell me that you have this image you despise all the things I do…it’s stranger than I thought, stranger than I thought, baby, stranger than I thought a mystery of love    oh yeah……     [the mystery, mystery of love]……. our father who art in heaven…hallo’ed be thy name….thy kingdom come…we will be one…because we’re just the same…the mystery of love…..the mystery of love……a mystery of love…..is stranger than I thought…….a mystery……..of …… love……...

Leeson Street Bridge (Ode to the spirit of Peggy Flynn r.i.p. 1966) {IMPORTANT FOOTNOTE:   This poem was originally written by Ed Darragh in 1976.  The song itself is dedicated to a “Lady of the Night” who was tragically strangled on Leeson Street, Dublin in February 1966, her assassin was quite bizarrely cleared of murder. Some 14  years after that murder Ed Darragh’s  career in music and the nightclub game started in Leeson Street, on the famous nightclub strip. Some 26 years later Ed opened her own Music Nightclub Venue in Southwold  - As a mark of respect to the families, friends and loved ones of the five recent tragic murders here in Suffolk, we have removed the lyrics from the song and will not be heard again in recorded song until time has healed and the burden of sorrow eased for all those closely affected by their untimely deaths. God Bless You Girls, Sleep in peace tonight. }

“I’m just another hooker with a story do you care? Just another dead hooker, I’m just another hooker and I’m buried over there…. on leeson st bridge I’m there alright…..all dressed in white…..I only come out at night… You can see my bright light!  Cold wet rain beating down on my face For god sake someone get me out of this place I work and I work and I get nowhere, I’ve gotta get laid ‘cause my wallet is bare (So I) take a walk upon, take a walk upon Leeson Street Bridge, I get paid for being late with the idle and the rich. So. along comes a “John” and we drove all night I was found face down strangled by the tide, No one even missed me, no one really cared No one got caught and my wallet’s still bare (So I) take a walk upon, take a walk upon Leeson Street Bridge, I got paid for being late with the idle and the rich. I’m just another hooker with a story do you care? just another dead hooker. I’m just another hooker with a story do you care? just another dead hooker I’m just another hooker and I’m buried over there With another dead hooker with a story do you care? We’re there alright…..all dressed in white…..we only come - out at night….you can see our bright lights…on leeson st bridge. Cold wet rain beating down on my face, For god sake someone get me out of this place I worked and I worked and I got nowhere I’m just another hooker with a story…….. do you care? On leeson st bridge………(I’m) just another hooker and I’m buried over there I’m just another hooker and I’m buried over there with another dead hooker With a story do  you care….. We’re there alright…..all dressed in white….we only come out at night….you can see our bright lights…on leeson st bridge………….sweet Peggy  - sweet Peggy we paid alright….. for being’ late that night down on leeson st bridge……..sleep in peace tonight, dream in peace tonight……… way down on Leeson Street………

Chercher L’espirit D’Amour (Film Score Instrumental)  ………” In search of the spirit of Love”

Stranger than I thought…this is the Mystery of Love…(solo piano version)…..

A Fisherman’s Tale I’m sitting right here in the middle of the night light with nothing to do. From where I sit you can see the ships night lights glisten. Across the bay you can the old lighthouse Searching the shore and this is a tale of a fisherman’s woe fisherman’s tales and lasers and beams,  searching the shore for a fisherman’s dream because there’s nobody there no more. Guiding them home in the middle of the night there’s nobody and there’s nothing inside, guiding them home in the middle of the night there’s nothing there (but the midnight air) The fisherman says it’s gonna rain today so bring your brolly and coat and when the fisherman says whats gonna be it’ll be you listen so I ‘m sitting right here in the middle of the night light with nothing to do From where I sit you can see the ships night they glow in the moon Guiding them home in the middle of the night there’s nobody and there’s nothing inside guiding them home in the middle of the night there’s nothing there (but the midnight air)  fisherman’s tales and lasers and beams, searching the shore for a fisherman’s dream fisherman’s tales and lasers and beams, searching the shore for a fisherman’s dream they dance in the bay under the moon under the stars out of the blue . . . . ..

*The Look Of Love {Bacharach/David}  (Emi Music Publishing)

The look of love is in your eyes the look your heart can’t disguise the look of love is saying so much more than words can ever say, but what my heart has heard it just takes my breath away, I can hardly wait to hold you feel my arms around you how long I have waited, waited just to love you now that I have found you…… you’ve got that look of love it’s on your face a look that time can replace, be mine tonight,  let this just be the start of so many nights like this lets take a love vow and seal it with a kiss I can hardly wait to hold you feel my arms around you how long I have waited, waited just to love you now that I have found you don’t go away…. Oh and be mine tonight please let this be the start of so many nights like this lets take that loves vow and seal it with a kiss I can hardly wait to hold you feel my arms around you how long I have waited, waited just to love you now that I have found you don’t let me go………. I love you so………….

Fish Just Gotta (Can’t Help Lovin that man of mine  {Jerome Kern} )…… Fish gotta swim birds gotta fly and I gotta love one man til I die, can’t help loving that man of mine. He can stay out late as can be, home without him ain’t no home for me . Can’t help Lovin that mine of mine… when he goes away, that’s a rainy day but when he comes back the sun will shine and he is mine. He can stay out as late as can be, home without him ain’t no home for me. Can’t help loving that mine of mine.

(Time upon the hill of Tara film score, Instrumental)    Originally written for Harp, The Hill of Tara in Eire is a magical mythical place located roughly about 35 miles north west of Dublin City, and was the medieval capital of Ireland some 4000 years ago. The Hill is famous for many things, it’s where the High Kings first settled and is home to the Darragh family.

Seven White Horses  (Ode to my late brother Paul Darragh who is greatly and very sadly missed)

As I sit and write this poem, my heart is filled with pain, you were adored by millions, and not just for your fame, your smile was something special, how you’d light up a room, and though my heart is breaking,  few words can fill this tune, and you’ll go now with your horses, go now to your horses, go now with your horses… go now……………..

Don’t let me pass you by  Here we go again, up the road again In double the time, I try to catch your eye, You up and go again, nowhere in the end All I can do is sit there saying nothing Wishing you could turn it into something Of all the things, don’t let this pass you by……of all the things, my heart forgets to mention There’s only this… don’t let me pass you by On the train again, in the car and then, Window-Shopping doing nothing special, I see you in the crowd, flatly standing out Thinking of things my letters never mentioned, There’s only this, I need your full attention Of all of the things I love it when you smile…….Of all the things my heart forgets to mention There’s only this……don’t let me pass you by. Here we go again, dreaming if there’s a when You’re going to tell me that you really love me? If there’s a wishing well, that I could kiss and tell With all of my heart, I’d love it if this were something.  You pick me up I want to dance in a Jacuzzi, kiss me quickly, till it makes me woozy and you’re mine of all the things my heart forgets to mention….I love you! so… don’t let it pass you by….. and oh those bells they’ll chime and chime AND OH THOSE BELLS THEY’LL CHIME AND CHIME AND WHEN BELLS TOLL I’LL KNOW YOU’RE MINE YOU’RE STILL MINE – YOU’RE MY FRIEND……….YOU’RE MY MAN…AMEN……

Sitting Pretty Vacant There was a child in the woods, happy and alone, spoke only to the animals and sometimes brought them home, and summer skies were everything, and school was just a laugh and love was just for adults but she’d never be like that And I…..all over again…..And why…..are u not my man?    And little lies were harmless, they didn't mean a thing, and what would she be doing? and what would santa bring? and these were all the questions wonderful and wild, walkin with my hero I was that child..... time moves so slowly….time it moves so slowly….time moves so slowly babe you stop my watch yeah………. Pretty pretty, She’s sitting pretty, pretty vacant yeah! And how I do wish to taste…..the sweetness of your feelings close upon my lips….the warmth of your chest….beating off my heart….and our minds….swimming in the deepest pool of togetherness…where time moves so slowly….it could stop a watch……… Pretty pretty, She’s sitting pretty, pretty vacant yeah! Pretty pretty, She’s sitting pretty, pretty vacant yeah! the story's nearly finished, until she meets that dream, that got her acting crazy and drinking from the stream, that ran from the mountain top and fed the daffodils she picked them in the morning and by nightfall they were still, that kiss that slowly strangled, that touch that spread like fire to words of bitter evil and a curse of deep desire, and now she's been replaced by a silhouette of air made of precious glass and she’s pretty pretty………pretty pretty……she’s sittin  pretty……pretty vacant yeah!
